What things are there to consider when a bride walks in your shop and starts to look at dresses?
A few things to consider are when is the wedding? What is the date? The time of year can really determine what style of dress the bride may consider and the colors of the wedding. Where is the wedding? Is the wedding indoor, outdoor or a destination wedding. This can help determine what style, size of train and material the dresses are made of.
What style of gown is the bride looking for? These days there are a lot of different styles of gowns from a full A-line "princess" dresses, slim A-line gowns, Mermaid, Trumpet skirts and even T-Length.
What are the price ranges for wedding dresses? Brides maid dresses?
Price ranges for our wedding gowns range any where from $100 to $2000.
Bridesmaid dresses typically run $85 to $250.
If a bride wants to be completely different, what advice can you give her?
Most of Evansville area Bridal shops are chain stores or franchises they all pretty much sale all the same cookie cutter wedding gowns. We are family owned and operated so I can listen to what the Bride wants. We go to Bridal market in the spring and fall and hand select all of the gowns that are in our store. This allows our store to have more of a variety of gowns. If a bride comes in looking for something in particular. I will go out of my way to find what she is looking for.
How long have you been in business?
The shop has been open for 6 years and it is family owned and operated. The shop first opened as a bridal consignment shop that only lasted for about 6 months. With local bridal shops closing their doors we saw an opportunity to do away with the consignment and bring in all new merchandise. We now carry over 15 different designers.
What all services do you offer?
We are a full service bridal shop. We carry wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, flowergirl dresses, veils, headpieces, shoes, invitations and accessories. We offer Tuxedo's by Jim's Formal Wear for the men. We also, have in house Alterations.
Other things to keep in mind:
- Memories in the Making is a specialty store. We have 1 dress in 1 color and size so that we can carry a wider selection of gowns. Bride's can buy a sample gown off the rack for a discounted price, but we usually special order the gowns in the color and size the Bride is wanting.
- Wedding gowns usually take 12 to 16 weeks to come in.
- Bridesmaid and flowergirl dresses generally take 10 to 14 weeks.
- Some designers keep gowns in stock so we can receive them within 2 weeks. They also offer rush orders these generally take 5 weeks and there is an extra charge.
- We recommend that Bride's order their dresses 12 to 8 months before the wedding and Bridesmaid's and flowergirls 8-6 months before the wedding.
- Keep in mind that alterations are almost always needed, wedding gowns need to have a bustle added and usually a hem. We like to start alterations on wedding gowns approximately 8 weeks before the wedding and bridesmaids dresses about 4 weeks before the wedding.
