The Wedding of Brock & Emily

Describe the events of your day

We got up really early to get our hair done. And, of course, the guys were able to sleep in. The time went by so quickly. Before I knew it, we had our hair finished, traveled from Princeton to Vincennes, and we were unloading our vehicles. Everyone was rushing around, eating sandwiches, and then getting makeup on. It was sort of surreal in a way. We were having a lot of fun. My bridesmaids have become friends with each other throughout this whole experience. That has been great. Again, the time passed so quickly. The photographer, Daniel Knight, was there to take pictures of us all getting ready, along with his assistant, Damon. Brock, and all the guys were in another area of the church. Brandon Ridge, our videographer was there. He and the photographers were great at putting everyone at ease. As we all finished preparing for the pictures to be taken, I guess I was reminding myself to breathe........I was not nervous........just ready to get on with the day that we all had so anxiously awaited. The pictures took quite a while as Daniel is so thorough. The guys were really impressed at his attention to detail. As photos were finished we went back "behind the scenes" to await the ceremony. People began filtering in and it finally seemed totally real. This was it! So many people were there to fill the beautiful sanctuary. It made both Brock and me feel very special that so many of our friends and relatives gave up their day to celebrate with us. Our special friend, Mike Berry, traveled from West Virginia to perform the ceremony. A dear friend of ours, Marjorie Greenwood, came all the way from London, she did the reading at the ceremony. And family friends from Long Island, New York also came to share the special time. My great grandmother, Katherine Newton, was able to be there as well. It all meant so much. After the ceremony and the guests went through the receiving line, rose petals fluttered down on us and we all got into the limo and went for pictures at the Country Club golf course. The reception followed. The music was great....... food was good...........cake was fabulous...... flowers were stunning........and everyone seemed to have a truly wonderful evening. Brock and I stayed until the end. At midnight we left and had to be in Indy to catch our flight to DC, then LA, then on to Hawaii. Whew.

What was your favorite part of your wedding?

There were several parts throughout the day that were extra special. However, I think our favorite was the reception, when we all could dance and have a great time. Even though I was exhausted, I found myself not wanting it to end.

Were there any rocky moments or close calls?

There were just those moments of not knowing if we had taken care of everything. The limos were already booked at so many places. We finally had to get one out of Indy. The guest list was extremely large, so that would probably have to be the main point of stress-----just dealing with accommodating so many guests.

Is there anything you would have changed?

There are times when I think about small things that maybe I would or wouldn't have done. But looking back, I wouldn't change anything. Everyone had a wonderful time and we have gotten compliments on how beautiful it was. That really makes you feel good after you have put so much time, money and effort into planning such a big event.

What advice would you give to other brides that you may have learned in the process of getting married.

Limit the guest list!!! That is the first thing to do. We had no idea it was going to expand to that many people. Just remember, the larger the guest list, the larger the expense of the wedding. And don't worry about small things. Somehow, everything falls into place that day.
